Licensing Information
Unlike other things you purchase, the software applications and
plants you buy from Digital Element don't belong to you. Instead,
you become a licensed user — you purchase the right to use
the software on a single computer, but you can't put copies on other
machines or pass that software along to colleagues.
What you can do:
- The purchaser of the software You can use the product to create
whatever art resources you like royalty-free.
- You can transfer your license of a non-education-priced version
of Digital Element software to another party by completely deleting
all copies of the software from your system and transferring it
to another individual. Online registration needs to be changed
to the new owner.
What is Software Piracy and Why is it a Problem?
Software piracy ultimately hurts artists by limiting the amount
of revenue developers can reinvest in innovative technology, documentation,
and customer support. Software piracy ultimately increase the price
of software for all users by reducing the number of copies sold.
Any distribution other than legal, company-authorized distribution
is software piracy and a violation of your licensing agreement as
well as possibly violating copyrights laws. Software piracy is the
illegal distribution and/or reproduction of Digital Element software
applications or plants for business or personal use. Whether software
piracy is deliberate or not, it is still illegal and punishable
by law.
When someone copies software without buying the appropriate number
of licenses, it is copyright infringement. Each of these activities
is a form of software piracy:
- An individual copying software for a friend
- A business underreporting the number of computers using the
software
- Sharing or posting normally-purchased online plants, paid upgrades,
or other normally-paid downloads with a friend.
The only time it's legal to download Digital Element
software free of charge is when special tryout promotions are offered.
Typically, you'll find these only on www.digi-element.com or on
sites mentioned in our links section. These offers enable the use
of the software only for a limited time or have limited functionality.
To buy knowing that you'll receive the protection and full functionality
of legal software, we recommend that you purchase from either the
Digital Element store or from a Digital Element reseller.
Digital Element sells versions of some of its software at an education
price to meet the needs of the education market. The packaging is
clearly labeled to avoid confusion with other market segments and
education serial numbers are cataloged. Duplication or unauthorized
resale of these specialized versions for distribution to other markets
is prohibited. To find out who qualifies for educational pricing,
visit Digital Element Education Program.
